Mayor Bowser Pushes to Legalize Marijuana Sales

On November 8, Mayor Bowser announced that she intends to introduce legislation legalizing the sale of marijuana in D.C.  That would expand D.C.'s law, which currently allows citizens to own and gift small amounts of marijuana but not sell it.  If the legislation is passed, it would follow a larger trend of marijuana legalization.

First responder roles are popular career choices for veterans after completing their military service. Currently hundreds of veterans from all branches of military service serve D.C.'s communities as MPD and DCFEMS members. We are grateful to all veterans for their service, and acknowledge the continuing service of D.C.'s first responder veterans.
DC Police Union Talks to DC Council About Compensation

The DC Police Union is advocating for the DC Council to reconsider a provision of the DC Code regarding how city employees are compensated. Currently, DC is required to offer its employees compensation that is deemed "competitive.
President Signs Opioid Bill

On October 24th Chairman Bigelow attended President Trump's signing of a new law intended to combat drug addiction.  The legislation, which had overwhelming bipartisan support in Congress, will lift Medicaid and Medicare restrictions and will help create opioid addiction recovery centers.
