A 17-year-old girl was fatally stabbed near Sherman Circle in Petworth late Monday after getting off a Metrobus amid an argument with a woman. The victim, whose name has not yet been made public, was stabbed in the chest and died at a hospital. Police said they were looking for an older teenager. • A man who was wounded in a double shooting early Saturday in the Brightwood Park neighborhood has died, the second fatality stemming from the incident. Ever Cruz, 31, of Northwest, died Sunday at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. Saul Flores, 36, was pronounced dead at the scene. No suspect information is available. • Ryan Matthews, 28, of D.C., pleaded guilty to shooting a man and punching two others near Dupont Circle last month. During the confrontation, Matthews pulled out a semi-automatic pistol and shot the man once at close range in the right side of the chest.

Authorities said they were hoping to review surveillance video from the bus. The stabbing occurred about 8 p.m. at Kansas Avenue and Emerson Street in Northwest. The victim, whose name has not yet been made public, was stabbed in the chest and died at a hospital. Lt. Derek Larsen said that Monday night’s fatal stabbing is not related to three other nearby killings that have occurred since last week.”
WTOP: DC man pleads guilty to shooting, punching strangers “A D.C. man pleaded guilty to shooting a complete stranger and punching two others in downtown D.C. last month. Around 3:15 a.m. on Sept. 10, 28-year-old D.C. resident Ryan Matthews approached a stranger in the 1300 block of Connecticut Avenue NW and punched him in the stomach, according to evidence gathered by the U.S. Attorney Office. Two of victim’s nearby friends confronted Matthews and asked why he had punched their friend. Matthews then punched one of the men in the neck. When another man engaged with the Matthews, the 28-year-old said ‘I guess you want to fight, too.’ Matthews pulled out a semi-automatic pistol and shot the other man once at close range in the right side of the chest.”
Washington Post: Second man dies after Saturday shooting in Brightwood area, D.C. police say “A man who was wounded in a double shooting early Saturday in Northwest Washington’s Brightwood Park neighborhood has died, the second fatality stemming from the incident, according to D.C. police. Ever Cruz, 31, of Northwest Washington died Sunday at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, where he had been in critical condition, police said. Saul Flores, 36, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 2:15 a.m. shooting in the 600 block of Kennedy Street NW. Police have released few details of the shootings. Authorities said officers responded to calls about gunshots and found both victims suffering from multiple wounds.”
Washington Post: D.C. fire officials search for person who burned vehicle in Northeast “D.C. fire investigators are searching for a man captured in a surveillance video who is suspected of burning an old ambulance parked in Northeast Washington that had been refurbished and was being used by a nonprofit group. The video shows a man who is wearing what appears to be a protective suit and a mask and who is carrying what is thought to be flammable materials, a fire official said. It occurred about 1:50 a.m. Saturday. The video was first posted on Prince of Petworth, a community blog.”
WTOP: District man pleads guilty in deadly shooting linked to pot “A District man has pleaded guilty in a fatal shooting that investigators believe was linked to marijuana in the victim’s apartment. Thirty-five-year-old Joseph Jennings Jr. pleaded guilty Monday to second-degree murder in the death of 37-year-old Matthew Shevlin. Shevlin was gunned down in January outside his condo in the Mount Vernon Triangle neighborhood near the Washington Convention Center. Authorities said Shevlin may have been targeted for marijuana after police found several jars containing the drug inside his apartment. Prosecutors say Jennings and two other men conspired to break into Shevlin’s apartment and steal marijuana. Those other suspects were also arrested.”

WJLA: Right-to-die bill to be considered by full DC Council “ The full D.C. Council will get its first chance to consider a bill that would allow terminally ill patients to end their lives with the help of a doctor. The right-to-die bill advanced in a narrow committee vote earlier this month. On Tuesday, the Committee of the Whole will take it up. The bill would allow patients with six months or less to live to request lethal medication from their doctors.”
