Washington Post: Man found fatally shot in alley in Anacostia, D.C. police say “A man was found fatally shot in an alley behind a row of houses in Anacostia, according to D.C. police. The shooting occurred about 11:20 p.m. Wednesday in the 1600 block of T Street SE, near Good Hope Road and Minnesota Avenue. Police said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity was not immediately made public pending notification of relatives. The shooting occurred near the corner of 16th and T streets, steps away from where a teenager was shot and killed on the afternoon of Sept. 1 in the 1900 block of 16th Street SE. That victim was identified as Kevin Anthony Jackson II, 17, who had in previous years attended Anacostia High School but was not enrolled at the time of his death. Police arrested a 15-year-old in the killing and charged him as a juvenile with first-degree murder.”

WUSA9: Several reports of damage from gunshots in SE, DC “At least three reports of gunshots damage have been made overnight in Southeast, D.C. Metropolitan police said. Police responded to the 3600 block of Brothers Place in Southeast, D.C. around 1:45 a.m. A woman said that someone fired their gun into her apartment. Authorities found her bedroom window shattered. No suspect was found. Damage from gunshots was also reported in the 1300 block of Morris Rd. in Southeast, D.C. Gunshots were also heard overnight in the 400 block of Newcomb St. in Southeast, D.C. No damage was found, Metropolitan police said.”

WJLA: DC Council bill makes voter registration automatic “Most of us dread going to the DMV, but the D.C. Council hopes your next trip to renew or update your license might help increase voter turnout. On Tuesday, Council members unanimously approved legislation making voter registration automatic. The veto-proof D.C. Council bill is now waiting for Mayor Muriel Bowser’s signature. The pending law would automatically send District Department of Motor Vehicles data to the D.C. Board of Elections.”

WJLA: Leaders hold meeting to address issues facing D.C.‘s youth “On Wednesday night, the bureaucrats and politicians who usually talk about the problems facing our kids, were replaced with kids. The Committee on Education held a roundtable about youth issues at DC’s City Hall. Students discussed topics such as the quality of the district’s education, the condition of its’ schools, and the influence of crime on their peers. ‘People think it’s cool to be in gangs and then when someone gets shot, it’s war,’ one student testified. Students also touched on broader, national issues, such as transgender students fitting in at school, race relations, and bullying.”

Washington Post: Man hit by car in May in downtown Washington dies of injuries “A Maryland man who was struck by a car while crossing a downtown Washington street in May has died from his injuries, according to D.C. police. The accident occurred shortly before 10 p.m. on May 7 in the 1600 block of K Street NW. Police said the victim died Wednesday at a hospital. He was identified as Dwayne Lee Flythe, 57, of Accokeek, in Prince George’s County.”
