Summary

Three people have been injured in a shooting in Southeast D.C., according to authorities. DC police said the shooting happened in the 2500 block of Pomeroy Road, Southeast at about 1:55 p.m. Tuesday • Police have taken one person into custody and are searching for another after their alleged involvement in a shooting and a robbery in Montgomery County that led to a crash in the District and an alert on the campus of a D.C. university. Officers say the first in a series of incidents happened around 1:16 a.m. in Northwest, D.C. where several men allegedly attempted to rob a truck driver in front of a 7-11 Store in the 200 block of Cedar Street.

Washington Post: Police identify man fatally shot in Southeast Washington “A man who was fatally shot in Southeast Washington on Sunday has been identified as a 24-year-old man, according to D.C. police. Andre Ricardo Harris, of Southeast, was pronounce dead at an area hospital shortly after the shooting, which occurred about 8:40 p.m. in the 1900 block of Savannah Terrace SE, near Congress Heights.”

Washington Post: D.C. police staffing back up with more than 3,800 officers “The D.C. police department now has more than 3,800 officers, an increase from the previous year when the size of the force fell below that mark for the first time in a decade, prompting concern from city leaders over the thinning ranks. Police Chief Peter Newsham told Mayor Muriel E. Bowser (D) and council members Tuesday that fewer officers are leaving each month, an indication that the force is stabilizing after years of failing to keep pace with attrition.”

Washington Post: Police identify woman who died in apartment fire in Northeast Washington “The person who died in an apartment fire that occurred Saturday night in Northeast Washington has been identified as a 64-year-old woman, according to D.C. police. Police said Joann Johnson was pronounced dead at a hospital after she was rescued from her apartment in the 4000 block of Eighth Street NE, in the Brookland neighborhood.”

Fox5DC: 31st annual 17th Street High Heel Race takes place in DC “In one of the most highly anticipated events of the year in the nation’s capital, thousands of people gathered in the Dupont Circle area for the 17th Street High Heel Race. The celebration kicked off at 7 p.m. Tuesday with a pre-race parade. The unique event, which is held on the Tuesday before Halloween each year, brought out many costumed drag queens and spectators in colorful and vibrant outfits out on the streets of D.C. while also providing a show of support for the LGBTQ community”

Fox5DC: Protester tosses Russian flags at President Trump in Capitol “A protester tossed Russian flags at President Donald Trump as he walked through the Capitol for a lunch with Republican senators. The protester, who has been identified as Ryan Clayton, was standing with reporters outside the Senate chamber on the building’s second floor when he threw the flags at Trump, who was walking alongside Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.”

Washington Post: Appeals court in Washington allows detained immigrant teen to seek abortion “An undocumented immigrant teen asking to end her pregnancy is entitled to seek an abortion without delay, according to a ruling Tuesday from a federal appeals court in Washington.”
