Tech player mourns his brother ” Saturday night 25-year-old Omar Rogers, a talented singer, performed at Uniontown Bar and Grill in SE Washington. Police say after the club closed Rogers was sitting in a car in the back parking lot. For no clear reason, someone confronted Rogers and shot and killed this father of two.”

WUSA: DC police: Minnesota Ave. in Southeast shut down after car crashes into power line “The 3200 block of Minnesota Avenue, SE was shut down in both directions early Monday morning after a car crashed into a power line in the area, D.C. police report.”

Washington Post: Pedestrian fatally struck in Northeast D.C. on Saturday identified as 62-year-old woman “D.C. police on Monday identified a 62-year-old woman as the pedestrian who was struck and killed by a vehicle Saturday on H Street in Northeast Washington. The victim, Jewel Lewis Hall of Northeast Washington, was pronounced dead at a hospital after the accident, which occurred about 11:10 a.m. at 10th and H streets.”

NBC Washington: Washington Sends $2.6M to Schools, Help Struggling Students “Washington, D.C. has sent more than $2 million to its public schools as part of a campaign to help struggling students and bridge achievement gaps in the city. The D.C. school system says the $2.6 million was sent to the city’s 115 public schools in an initiative called Excellence through Equity, The Washington Post reported Monday.”

Fox5DC: Indigenous Peoples’ Day proposed to replace Columbus Day in DC “A new bill was proposed to legally change Columbus Day to Indigenous People’s Day in the District. The Indigenous Peoples’ Day Amendment Act of 2017 was introduced by At-Large Councilmember Anita Bonds on Tuesday and would legally change the name of the holiday in Washington, D.C.”
