Fox5DC: Police: Teen arrested for sexually assaulting woman, forcing her to jump naked into Anacostia River “Police have arrested a teen they believe sexually assaulted a woman before forcing her to take off her clothes and jump into the frigid waters of the Anacostia River. The incident was reported around 10 p.m. on March 20 in the 3200 block of Buena Vista Terrace in Southeast D.C. Investigators say 17-year-old Troy Ashley was armed with a handgun when he approached the woman while she was sitting in her vehicle. Police say Ashley sexually assaulted and raped the victim and then ordered her to drive to Anacostia Park where he forced her out of the car and into the river. Police say Ashley then fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle.”

Fox5DC: Man arrested for sending packages with explosive materials to military bases, federal agencies “A man has been arrested near Seattle after authorities said he sent suspicious packages containing explosive materials to military bases in the DC area. The FBI announced 43-year-old Thanh Cong Phan was taken into custody at his home in Everett, Washington on Monday without incident by agents with the FBI’s Seattle office and deputies with the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.”

Fox5DC: Cannabis advocates hold pop-up rally, give away joints inside Wilson building lobby “Cannabis advocates held a pop-up rally and even gave away joints inside the Wilson building lobby on Tuesday to demand change for the way marijuana is sold and distributed in D.C. Advocates from the DC Cannabis Business Association and DCMJ say they are outraged by the increasing number of cannabis-related arrests and say there are limitations for D.C. residents operating legal cannabis businesses.”

Likely on the agenda: Skyrocketing water bills and the controversial Clean Rivers fee, which has been the subject of a series of News4 I-Team investigations. DC Water also proposed raising the sewer rate customers pay by 13 percent next year.”

NBC Washington: Hiring of DC VA Medical Center Director Is Under Investigation “Internal agency investigators are reviewing possible “impropriety” and political favoritism in the hiring of the director of the Washington DC VA Medical Center. The formal review was confirmed to the News4 I-Team on Tuesday by multiple sources and is the latest in a string of problems for the troubled medical center on Irving Street in Northwest D.C.”
