Police are searching for the person who shot and killed a man in Southeast D.C. Sunday. The shooting was reported just after 10 p.m. Sunday on the 800 block of Chesapeake Street. Investigators have not released a suspect description or motive in this shooting. • A 16-year-old girl has died after D.C. police say was shot in the head Thursday afternoon. Police say 16-year-old Taiyania Thompson, from Northeast D.C. was rushed to the hospital but died from her injuries on Sunday. Investigators say they’ve identified a vehicle of interest in this case. They say they’re looking for a 2017 white Kia Sorento SUV with a Maryland tag of 1DD2833 and may have front-end damage.

Washington Post: Woman sexually assaulted near Anacostia River “A woman was sexually assaulted Saturday in Southeast Washington by a man who ordered her into his vehicle, the D.C. police said. The woman was walking in the 1700 block of Fairlawn Avenue about 6:30 a.m. when the man approached. He assaulted her and ordered her into the vehicle, police said. Inside the vehicle, the woman was sexually assaulted, but escaped and fled, according to police. They said the attacker drove off in a white compact four door vehicle.”
Fox5DC: Police looking for suspect after person stabbed on Metro bus “Police are looking for a suspect after they say a person was stabbed on a Metro bus Sunday afternoon. Investigators say it happened just after 3:30 p.m. as Transit and DC police were called to Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and Galveston Place SW for a person stabbed while on an A4 route Metrobus.”
NBC Washington: Former D.C. Charter School Teacher Sentenced to 3 Years in Prison for Sexual Abuse of 14-Year-Old Student “A former Washington, D.C., charter school teacher was sentenced to three years in prison for sexually abusing a student. Alan Coleman, of Gainesville, Florida, pleaded guilty in D.C. Superior Court in October, admitting to having sex with the girl multiple times over a five-year span beginning during the 2004-2005 school year, when the girl was 14 years old. As part of the plea, the D.C. sentence will run concurrently with the sentence to be imposed Feb. 9 in Montgomery County, Maryland, where most of the abuse occurred. He faces a sentence of four-to-seven years in prison there.”
NBC Washington: Man Trying to Cross Capital Beltway Hit By DC Circulator Bus “A man was killed after he was hit by a bus while trying to cross the Capital Beltway in Prince George’s County, Maryland, early Saturday morning. Maryland State Police said James Albert Gibson, 79, of Upper Marlboro, was struck on southbound Interstate 495 around the Maryland Route 4 exit. Investigators said Gibson was trying to cross the southbound lanes from east to west, when he was hit by a DC Circulator bus.”

Fox5DC: Park police: 76-year-old man missing, last seen near Little Falls ” Police are asking for the community’s help in locating a missing man last seen near Little Falls Saturday afternoon. U.S. Park police say they are trying to locate 76-year-old Rodney Smith. Investigators say he was last seen at around 2:30 p.m. Saturday near Clara Barton Parkway at C and O Canal and the Little Falls Reservoir. Park Police say Smith is a white male, 5 foot, 10 inches tall, 180 pounds with short blond-gray hair.”
Washington Post: Hundreds apply to carry loaded, concealed handguns in D.C. Most don’t live there. “More than 800 people have asked the D.C. police for licenses to carry loaded concealed handguns when they dine, shop and walk the streets of the nation’s capital. In the months since a court ordered city officials to scale back gun-control laws, police department records show that more than half the applicants are not District residents.”
NBC Washington: Metro Neglected Testing Ahead of Red Line Derailment “Metro leaders and concerned officials, including congresswomen Barbara Comstock, gathered Thursday to discuss Metro safety after a recent derailment on the Red Line. Officials discovered Metro employees had allowed crucial radio testing to slip by weeks at a time. Timely testing could have potentially identified and fixed a communication issue during the derailment.”

Superior Court’s internal jury duty system resulted in the court failing to mail out notices to thousands of city residents, forcing court officials to frantically email summonses last week, just days before the trials were scheduled to start.”
