WUSA: MISSING: 14-year-old boy from SE DC “DC Police are looking for 14-year-old Bacari Colvin. He was last seen on the 900 block of Southern Avenue, Southeast at about 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 7. Bacari is six feet tall, 180 pounds, with dark brown eyes and hair. He was last seen wearing yellow shirt, tan pants, grey coat and black boots.”

NBC Washington: Man Who Plowed Into Officers, DC Employee Indicted “The driver of a truck that police say hit two police officers and a transit worker in Washington, D.C., faces up to 90 years in prison if convicted on all charges. Prosecutors said 24-year-old Brandon Figures-Mormon hated police and traveled to the Adams Morgan district from his home in Disputanta, a community near Richmond, Virginia, with the intent of at least hurting an officer. The officers were riding their bikes near 18th Street and Columbia Road NWon June 8, 2017, when the white pickup truck crashed into them.”

NBC Washington: Girl, 3, Killed in Baltimore-Washington Parkway Crash “A 3-year-old girl was killed and another person was critically injured in a crash on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway Monday night. The crash happened about 11:15 p.m. in the northbound lanes of the BW Parkway near Route 198 in Laurel, Maryland. U.S. Park Police say speed was a factor in the crash. The victim and driver have not been identified. The toddler’s father was in the car at the time of the crash, but he was not the driver, police say.”

NBC Washington: ‘Unconscionable:’ Memo Says DC Fire Recruits Lack Proper Equipment, Training “A veteran of the D.C. Fire and EMS Department says the city’s training academy is leaving new firefighters woefully underprepared. Some rookies leave having never used a fire hydrant, a recently retired deputy fire chief with decades on the job wrote in an internal memo obtained by News4. The nine-page memo says the recruits are rushed through a training program. The memo says initial firefighter training was a 20-week program, but now takes just eight weeks.”

Washington Post: George Washington adopts mandatory diversity training for incoming students “Following an outcry from George Washington University students over a racially charged Snapchat posting, administrators announced Wednesday that all incoming students will undergo mandatory diversity training starting in the fall.”

NBC Washington: DC Mayor: ‘Just Like the Wall,’ Trump Would Have to Pay for Military Parade “President Donald Trump has asked the Pentagon to plan a grand military parade this year in Washington, D.C., but the plan is getting panned by the city’s mayor, city council and delegate to the U.S. House. The Trump administration, not D.C., would have to foot the bill for a lavish parade on city streets, Mayor Muriel Bowser’s office said Wednesday morning. A spokeswoman for the mayor said Bowser’s office is tracking media reports about a parade ahead of being contacted by federal officials.”

Washington Post: Challenged from the left, D.C. Council Chairman defends progressive record “The biggest race in D.C. this year may be a war of the wonks. At a Tuesday evening forum, Council Chairman Phil Mendelson (D), a longtime, low-key lawmaker steeped in the nuances of governance, sparred for the first time with challenger Ed Lazere, executive director of the D.C. Fiscal Policy Institute, an influential liberal think tank. Facing a challenge from the left, Mendelson urged fiscal caution and defended his record on progressive issues from increasing the minimum wage to legalizing same-sex marriage. Lazere said the city needs bolder leadership to address an affordable housing crisis and racial inequality.”
