The suspect is the second person charged in the case. • After Carolyn Ellis, 65, was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver, DC Police arrested David Phillip Jones, 36, and charged him in connection with the case.

Washington Post: Second man charged in Takoma 7-11 case “A second suspect was charged Tuesday in a homicide that occurred last year outside a 7-11 store in the Takoma neighborhood of the District, D.C. police said. They said Wlliam Charlie Bowman, 27, of Northwest, DC, was arrested Jan. 10 in Atlanta, and extradited to the District, where he was charged with second degree murder while armed in the death of James Dorsey, Jr., 37.”

Washington Post: Man fatally shot in Northeast Washington “A man was fatally shot early Tuesday morning in Northeast Washington, authorities said. At around 1:45 a.m., officers responded to the 1500 block of Irving Street NE for the report of gunshots and found 25-year-old Cheval Reid of Southeast suffering from gunshot wounds, D.C. police said in a statement. He was pronounced dead at the scene, the statement said.”

NBC Washington: Woman Struck, Killed as She Crossed the Street; Driver Charged with 2nd-Degree Murder “On the night she died, 65-year-old Carolyn Ellis was leaving a celebration, where she was honored for her community service. That was no surprise to Ellis’ friends, who remembered how many children she supported, how many she helped get scholarships, how many she helped get through college.”

WJLA: Police investigate after man shot in Northwest, D.C. “Police are investigating after a man was shot in Northwest Washington early Tuesday morning. Shortly after 2 a.m., the man was shot at Georgia Avenue and Delafield Place and treated for injuries that were not life-threatening, according to DC police.”

NBC Washington: 2 Honored for Helping Metro Rider Who Collapsed at Station “Officials honored a Good Samaritan and a Metro Transit Police Department officer who helped a Metro rider who collapsed on the platform of a Virginia station. On his way to work at the Pentagon Jan. 31, Chris Metsala, a 46-year-old husband and father of two, collapsed on the Braddock Road Metro platform.”

Washington Post: D.C. Council votes down salary-doubling retention bonus for retiring cops “Emergency legislation to award $63.8 million in raises and retention bonuses for police officers failed to muster the votes it needed to pass through the D.C. Council on Tuesday.”

NBC Washington: DC Ready to Lobby Congress for Statehood “The House Oversight Committee will take up a bill to block D.C.‘s “Death with Dignity” law. That’s also two days before D.C. residents will go to the Hill to lobby for statehood.”
