Washington Post: Man charged in weekend shooting on Metro car with 20 passengers on board “About 20 people were on board a moving Metrorail car Sunday when gunshots rang out near the Silver Spring station, leaving a teenager with a wound to the abdomen. Metro Transit Police on Monday announced the arrest of Jermaine Brown, 18, of Seat Pleasant, Md., who was taken into custody by Metro police at a Capitol Heights motel late Sunday. He was charged with first-degree assault in the shooting.”

Washington Post: Car crash leads to suspect in carjacking, burglary and robbery, D.C. police say “A car crash in Southeast Washington led D.C. police to arrest two suspects — one of whom was linked to a robbery and a burglary, according to authorities. Police said the arrests were made after authorities responded to the crash about 11 a.m. on Aug. 3 at 14th and D streets SE. Police said one of the occupants of the car ran from the scene and was caught by officers. Police said the car they were in had been carjacked earlier in Maryland.”

Washington Post: D.C. police find poodle named Diva that was taken during robbery in Southeast Washington “D.C. police have recovered a poodle named Diva that was taken during a robbery last week in Southeast Washington, according to authorities. Police arrested a woman Sunday who they said had the dog; they are still looking for two people who took the dog Aug. 3 and fled in a black sport utility vehicle.”

Washington Post: Trial begins for man charged with 2012 fatal stabbing of transgender woman at D.C. bus stop “As she sat at the bus shelter, someone plunged a knife into the side of her head and ran off. A passerby who thought he’d witnessed a mugging gave chase, but was unable to catch the assailant. Jones, 23, died minutes later at a nearby hospital. About two weeks after the killing, police arrested Gary Montgomery, a man who was a stranger to Jones and who was seen on security video cameras, sitting next to her at the bus stop.”

NBC Washington: Breakfast Fundraiser to Benefit Injured DC Firefighter “A breakfast fundraiser is being held to help an injured District of Columbia firefighter. Dane Smothers Jr. was injured last week at the scene of a rowhouse fire in the Capitol Hill area. Officials said at the time that the 28-year-old probationary firefighter had just gotten off a truck when he was hit by an arriving ladder truck.”

NBC Washington: Missing Teen Last Seen in DC More Than Two Weeks Ago “A teenage boy has been missing for more than two weeks, according to D.C. police. Brandon Lewis, 16, was last seen in the 1400 block of Columbia Road NW July 19, police said. He was reported missing Saturday.”

NBC Washington: Bowser May Cut Street Parking, Create Commercial Spots “D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser will propose major changes to parking on many D.C. streets. Under the plan, more curb lanes would be reserved for trucks, buses and ride-hailing services. “People who are just driving in and out of the city are really going to have to park in a garage,” says DDOT director Leif Dormsjo.”
