Fox5DC: Northeast shooting leaves 1 dead, 3 injured, DC police say “Homicide detectives swarmed Northeast after they said a suspect killed a man and injured three others in a shooting late Thursday evening. DC police said the suspect opened fire at an Exxon gas station in the 3400 block of 18th Street, NE at about 7:45 p.m.”

Fox5DC: Driver of SUV flees after crashing into apartment; residents evacuated “Police say the driver of an SUV smashed their vehicle into an apartment building in Southeast, D.C. Thursday morning then fled the scene. About 20 residents in the apartment building were evacuated after the crash that happened around 6:30 a.m. on the 5000 block of D Street.”

Fox5DC: DC firefighter in critical condition after being hit by ladder truck “A rookie D.C. firefighter is fighting for his life after he was hit by a ladder truck at the scene of a house fire late Wednesday night on Capitol Hill. Dane Smothers, Jr., 28, is listed in critical condition in ICU at Washington Medstar Hospital.”

Bowser (D), who will be mostly outside the District through Aug. 12, according to her staff. On Wednesday the mayor began a vacation in Florida that will last through Tuesday.”

Washington Post: Trump choice for U.S. attorney for D.C. moves to Senate floor “The Senate Judiciary Committee voted Thursday to confirm the White House’s choice for U.S. attorney for the District, Jessie K. Liu, to head the largest U.S. attorney’s office in the country and an office that often oversees politically sensitive investigations of the executive and legislative branches.”
