Tuesday night. A Metro spokesperson says a V2 bus was traveling in the area of Minnesota Avenue and 16th Street at around 9:30 p.m. when the driver heard gunfire. The driver was startled by the sound and ended up going off the road and hitting a pole.

Fox5DC: Vandal sought after Lincoln Memorial spray painted “A vandal is being sought after the Lincoln Memorial was spray painted in the early morning hours Tuesday, according to officials.The National Park Service said it was working to remove the graffiti after it was discovered at about 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday.”

Washington Post: Police arrest 13-year-old boy in carjacking attempt “D.C. police have arrested a second 13-year-old boy in the armed carjacking attempt of a woman in the Brightwood neighborhood of Northwest Washington. Police charged him with carjacking and assault with a dangerous weapon in the Aug. 10 attack in the 6000 block of 13th Place NW. Authorities arrested and charged another 13-year-old boy in the case after he was stopped at the scene.”

Washington Post: D.C. police identify a suspect in Georgetown killing “D.C. police are searching for a 24-year-old man they have identified as a suspect in the early morning killing of a Severn man during a double shooting near the Georgetown waterfront last month.”

Washington Post: Man shot by D.C. officer charged with assault, illegal possession of a gun “A man who was shot and wounded by a D.C. police officer during a foot pursuit Monday evening in Southeast Washington produced a gun after he had climbed a fence, according to a police report. The officer, “fearing for his safety,” fired and struck the man in the upper leg, police said. The man was identified as Kevontae Stewart, 19, of Southeast.”

Washington Post: Gunman arrested after carjacking a vehicle while running from officers, police say “A man running from D.C. police carjacked a motorist at gunpoint late Monday morning and was quickly arrested after crashing into another car along New York Avenue NE, according to authorities.”

NBC Washington: Hate Incidents Reported Across DC Area “Events in Charlottesville appear to have set off a small but very disturbing chain of hate-related incidents in the D.C. area. In D.C., a dramatically higher number of people reported being the victims of hate crimes in 2016 than in 2015—and data for 2017 as of June suggested a continued increase.”
