DC Crime Summary – June 16th - 22nd, 2017

There were three homicides and several violent crimes reported in the District this week • Robin Fitzgerald, 41, was fatally shot Wednesday inside of an apartment in the Deanwood neighborhood. Aaron Jacobs, 29, was arrested in connection with the case and charged with second-degree murder while armed. • Reginald Parks, 51, was identified as the man who was shot and killed in the Grant Park neighborhood. Two men were running from the scene, and DC Police are actively investigating the incident. • Malik Hill, 25, was killed and two other people were injured in a triple shooting in the Skyland neighborhood Friday night, June 16th. No suspect information is available at this time, and authorities are actively investigating the incident. • An employee reportedly stabbed a co-worker inside of a Giant grocery store Thursday afternoon near the Van Ness Metro station. The victim was transported to a local hospital, and authorities are actively investigating the incident.

NBC Washington: One Dead, Two Injured in Triple Shooting in SE DC “A man was killed and two others injured in a triple shooting in southeast Washington on Friday night, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.”

Washington Post: Woman fatally shot in Northeast Washington, police say “A man was arrested after a woman was fatally shot early Wednesday inside an apartment in the Deanwood neighborhood of Northeast Washington, according to D.C. police.”

Washington Post: 4 people wounded in 3 attacks across the District “Two shootings and one stabbing left four people wounded across the District on Wednesday in apparently unrelated attacks, D.C. police said.”

Washington Post: Man fatally shot in Northeast Washington “A man was fatally shot Monday morning near the Grant Park neighborhood of Northeast Washington, according to D.C. police. The shooting occurred about 10:20 a.m. in the 300 block of 54th Street NE.”

Washington Post: Body pulled from Potomac River off Roosevelt Island “D.C. firefighters recovered a body Monday in the Potomac River off Roosevelt Island, according to authorities. Vito Maggiolo, a spokesman for the fire department, said someone spotted the body and called police about 6:35 a.m.”

Washington Post: Police identify man fatally shot in District as 51-year-old from Northeast “A man who was fatally shot Monday morning in Northeast Washington’s Grant Park neighborhood has been identified as a 51-year-old, according to D.C. police.”

WJLA: Police: Remains of missing 27-year-old DC man found in embankment off Md dirt road “A decomposed body of a man was found in an embankment off a dirt road in Allegany County in April and has been identified as 27-year-old Ariel Arnaldo Espinal from D.C., Maryland State Police announced on Tuesday.”

NBC Washington: Congressman Scalise Upgraded to Serious Condition, Showing Improvement: Hospital “U.S. House Majority Whip Steve Scalise’s condition has been upgraded from critical to serious as his health continues to show improvement, according to a statement from the MedStar Washington Hospital Center.”

NBC Washington: Man Stabbed at Giant Store Near Van Ness Metro “News4’s Shomari Stone reports outside a Giant grocery store in D.C.‘s Van Ness neighborhood, where police say a man has been stabbed.”

WJLA: Supreme Court upholds convictions in 1984 murder in DC “The Supreme Court on Thursday upheld the murder convictions of seven men in a brutal 1984 killing in the District of Columbia.”

Fox5DC: Text to 911: DC launches emergency service texting system “A new system will allow residents in the District to text 911 during an emergency. Text to 911 helps people who are deaf, hard of hearing, have speech disabilities or would be put in more danger by making a phone call rather than sending a text message.”

NBC Washington: Row House in NW DC Catches Fire “A row house in northwest Washington caught fire early Sunday morning, but those inside were able to get out safely. D.C. Fire and EMS units arrived in the 2400 block of Massachusetts Avenue, Northwest, around 10:45 a.m.”

Washington Post: Man, 27, killed when his speeding car crashes into telephone pole in Northeast D.C. “A man was killed in a crash early Friday in Northeast Washington when, D.C. police said, the car he was driving slammed into a telephone pole on Benning Road.”

NBC Washington: Officer Shot at Congressional Baseball Practice Throws First Pitch at Women’s Game “A Capitol Police officer who was shot while providing protection at a congressional baseball practice last week is out of the hospital.”

NBC Washington: DC Officers Get Tasers Through Pilot Program “D.C. Police Chief Peter Newsham told News4’s Mark Segraves that some officers now have tasers through a pilot program that has been in the works for years. The tasers are bright yellow, and officers carry them on the opposite side of their belts as they guns.”
