DC Crime Summary - September 8th - 14th 2017

There were two homicides and several violent crimes this week in the District. • Police are investigating after a shooting left a man dead in Northwest, D.C. The shooting happened around 9:30 p.m. Sunday outside of 615 Newton Place. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 202-727-9099 or text anonymously at 50411. A man has died after being stabbed Monday night in Southwest Washington, police said on Tuesday. The incident occurred about 9:30 p.m. in the 3900 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SW, near the southern tip of the District. The man was reported unconscious at the scene. Three people were shot in Northwest D.C. Wednesday night in the unit block of M Street at around 9:19 p.m Police say a woman was found by officers unconscious and unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the head. A man was found with gunshot wounds to the torso. Another man was shot in the foot. No suspects are in custody. Two men were shot at an apartment complex in the District on Thursday, according to officials. The men were shot at the Second Northwest Cooperative Homes in the 400 block of N Street, NW, at around 4:55 p.m. The victims ended up being located in the 400 block of M Street, NW, police said. Several shell casings were found in the parking lot. Members of the D.C. Fraternal Order of Police have been collecting donations to help the victims of the hurricanes wreaking havoc on the United States. The officers have donated their own items and coordinated between family, friends and local businesses to fill four large trailers with supplies the victims desperately need.

Washington Post: Man fatally stabbed in Southwest Washington “A man has died after being stabbed Monday night in Southwest Washington, police said on Tuesday. The incident occurred about 9:30 p.m. in the 3900 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SW, near the southern tip of the District. The man was reported unconscious at the scene.”

Fox5DC: 3 shot on M Street in Northwest DC; police continue search for suspects “No suspects are in custody after three people were shot in Northwest D.C. Wednesday night. The shootings happened in the unit block of M Street at around 9:19 p.m. Police say a woman was found by officers unconscious and unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the head. A man was found with gunshot wounds to the torso. Another man was shot in the foot. Police were still on the scene investigating Thursday morning. Drivers can expect traffic delays in the area while officers remain on the scene.”

The men were shot at the Second Northwest Cooperative Homes in the 400 block of N Street, NW, at around 4:55 p.m. The victims ended up being located in the 400 block of M Street, NW, police said. Washington Post: D.C. police say infant sexually abused at day care center “An adult relative of a day-care center operator in Northeast Washington has been charged with sexually abusing an 8-month-old child under the center’s care, according to D.C. police. D.C. police said they are trying to determine whether there are additional victims, and are urging anyone with information on this case or on others to call 202-727-9099.”

Fraternal Order of Police have been collecting donations to help the victims of the hurricanes wreaking havoc on the United States. The officers have donated their own items and coordinated between family, friends and local businesses to fill four large trailers with supplies the victims desperately need.”

Fox5DC: Sept. 11 remembrance ceremonies held at Pentagon; throughout DC area “Northern Virginia will mark the 16th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks at multiple ceremonies. Arlington County, where the Pentagon was struck and 184 people died, will hold ceremonies Monday morning on its plaza at the county courthouse.”

NBC Washington: Metro Security Report Shows Violent Crimes Down, Operator Assaults Up “The report showed a 17 percent reduction of what are called Part I crimes when compared to the first six months of 2016. Such crimes involve aggravated assault, arson, burglary, homicide, larceny, motor vehicles thefts, rape, and robbery.”

WTOP: Police: New Apple technology will delay justice in DC area “Apple’s new security features will make it harder for local police to retrieve digital evidence they need to solve crimes. While great for consumers, without the ability to bypass enhanced security such as facial recognition, investigators said it will delay justice.”

Fox5DC: ‘Mother of All Rallies,’ ‘Juggalo March,’ cancer race to take place in DC over weekend “Local authorities are preparing in advance for several events planned for this weekend. The Mother of All Rallies, The Juggalo March on Washington, and the 37th Annual Race to Beat Cancer all take place in the District in and around the National Mall on Saturday.”
