DC Crime Summary – May 5th - 11th, 2017

There were two homicides and several violent crimes reported in the District this week • Dejon Charles Sutton, 24, was fatally shot Wednesday night near the Watts Branch playground in Northeast. Another man was also injured in the incident, and he was transported to a local hospital for treatment. No suspect information is available at this time. • A man was shot and killed Tuesday afternoon in the Bellevue neighborhood. No suspect information is available at this time, and DC Police are actively investigating the incident. • Tayone Casey, 25, was arrested in connection with a shooting in the Skyland neighborhood in February. The victim was left seriously injured, after suffering multiple gunshot wounds. • Michael Dupree Price, 36, was identified as the man who was shot and killed near the Benning Road Metro station on Friday. No suspect information is available at this time, and authorities are actively investigating the incident. • The parents of Trinity Jabore, a 7-week-old girl who died on Christmas, were charged with first-degree murder. After investigating the death, authorities believe the infant died because she was malnourished and beaten. • Vorreze Richardo Thomas Jr., 19, was arrested in connection with dumping lighter fluid on a woman, as he tried to light the victim and the apartment on fire. The suspect was formally charged with assault with intent to kill. • Police from across the nation participated in the 38th Annual Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Service to honor officers who have died in the active line of duty. The ceremony marked the beginning of National Police Week.

Washington Post: Man fatally shot in Northeast Washington “A 24-year-old man was fatally shot Wednesday night in Northeast Washington, near the border with Maryland, according to D.C. police. The shooting occurred about 8:40 p.m. in the 6100 block of Banks Place NE, adjacent to the Watts Branch playground just off Southern Avenue.”

Washington Post: Man fatally shot in Southwest Washington’s Bellevue neighborhood “A young man was shot and killed Tuesday afternoon in Southwest Washington’s Bellevue neighborhood, D.C. police said. The shooting occurred shortly after 2 p.m. in the 100 block of Irvington Street SW, near the Blue Plains Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant and close to the Maryland border.”

Washington Post: Police arrest additional suspects in 2 homicides in Southeast and Northwest “D.C. police have arrested additional suspects in two fatal shootings, one in Southeast Washington last year and the other in Northwest in 2015, according to law enforcement authorities. The men arrested are the second suspects in both cases.”

WJLA: Man, 25, arrested for shooting that left victim seriously injured in Southeast D.C. “A 25-year-old man was arrested for a Feb. 2017 shooting that left another man seriously injured in Southeast Washington. Tayone Casey was charged with assault with intent to kill on May 8, according to Metropolitan Police.”


Washington Post: Domestic violence incident leads to assault with intent to kill charge “D.C. police detectives arrested a 19-year-old man on a charge of assault with intent to kill for dumping lighter fluid on a Southeast Washington woman and trying to light her and her apartment ablaze during a domestic violence incident, according to police officials and a police report.”

Washington Post: Authorities ID victim of Friday morning fatal shooting in SE Washington “A 36-year-old man was shot and killed early Friday along Benning Road in Southeast Washington, D.C. police said. The victim was identified as Michael Dupree Price of Southeast.”

Washington Post: Parents charged in starvation, beating death of 7-week-old infant “A 7-week-old girl who died on Christmas Day in Southwest Washington was malnourished and suffered broken ribs, according to D.C. police, who on Friday arrested the parents and charged them each with first-degree murder.”

Washington Post: Three juveniles, three men shot in two incidents in the District “Six people, three of them described as juveniles, were shot in the District Tuesday night in two separate incidents, police said.”

Washington Post: D.C. man who shot randomly at people and vehicles on Georgia Avenue gets 10 years “A D.C. man who was shot by police after shooting randomly at people and vehicles in Northwest Washington last year was sentenced to 10 years in prison Wednesday, prosecutors said.”

Washington Post: D.C. police say gun seizures up as detectives focus on drug suppliers “A D.C. police squad formed two years ago to target drug distributors seized more guns in the first four months of this year than it did in all of 2016, which authorities say has helped achieve a sharp reduction in violent crime.”

WJLA: D.C. memorial service honors local police officers killed on duty “A solemn ceremony at the Washington Area Law Enforcement Officers Memorial on Monday honored local police officers killed in the line of duty. Their colleagues and families placed blue carnations at the memorial.”

WJLA: 5 fallen D.C. area police officers honored at MPD headquarters “Five fallen officers in the D.C. area who were either killed in the line of duty or died in 2016 were honored Monday at the D.C. police headquarters.”
