DC Crime Summary – March 25th - 30th, 2017
There were multiple homicides and several violent crimes reported in the District this week • Nathaniel Davis, Maurice Nathaniel Jackson, and Daquan Hooks were shot and killed in Southeast this past weekend. No suspect information is available at this time, and DC Police are actively investigating the incidents. • A man was shot and wounded Friday night in the Trinidad neighborhood on Friday night. The unidentified victim was found unconscious and unresponsive when first responders arrived. • Antwan Jones, 31, was shot and killed while sitting inside of a vehicle near Turner Elementary School in the Congress Heights neighborhood. Another man was also shot inside of the vehicle, and authorities are actively investigating the incident. • Bernard Coleman III, 23, was arrested and charged in connection with fatally shooting his father near Congress Heights. • El Hadji Alpha Madiou Toure, 28, was arrested in connection with the stabbing death of Corrina Mehiel, who was found tied up in a basement apartment on Capitol HIll. According to reports, the suspect allegedly did not know the vicitm, and the victim may have been targeted in a robbery. • Lionel Stacey Bruce of Northeast, a 58-year-old pedestrian, has died from injuries he sustained when he was struck by a vehicle in the Deanwood neighborhood. Authorities have charged Michael Anthony Fenderson second-degree murder and driving under the influence. • Maurice Delonte Dawkins and Joseph Reginald Ward were both arrested and charged with the rape of a 13-year-old girl in the basement of a home in the Randle Highlands neighborhood. The suspects are being held without bond, as DC Police continue to investigate the incident.

Washington Post: Man fatally shot in Southeast Washington “A 24-year-old Maryland man was shot and killed late Saturday in Southeast D.C., police said Sunday. The shooting happened around 9:20 p.m. in the 1500 block of White Place in Southeast, at intersection with Minnesota Avenue, police said.”
Washington Post: Southeast Washington sees two men fatally shot in two days “Two men were found fatally shot in Southeast Washington in the past two days, one Friday and the other Thursday, D.C. police said.”
Washington Post: Shooting victim found unconscious in NE Washington “A man was found shot and critically wounded Friday night in the Trinidad area of Northeast Washington D.C. police said. Police found the victim unconscious and unresponsive after they were called to the 1200 block of 16th Street NE about 10:20 p.m., said Officer Sean Hickman, a spokesman.”
Washington Post: One person shot, another stabbed in two incidents in Northwest and Southeast D.C. “One person was shot and another was stabbed in separate incidents in Washington. In one incident, there was a report of a shooting around 1 a.m. in the 1900 block of Naylor Road in Southeast.”
NBC Washington: 2 Men Charged With Sexually Assaulting Child in Southeast DC “Two men have been charged with sexually assaulting a child in southeast D.C., police said. Maurice Delonte Dawkins, 21, was arrested and charged with first-degree sexual abuse and first-degree child sexual abuse on Thursday.”
NBC Washington: Police: 13-Year-Old Girl Raped in Southeast DC by 2 Men “A 13-year-old girl was raped by two men in the basement of a home in Southeast D.C., police said. The child was attacked on the 1700 block of 25th Street SE, about a half-mile south of Pennsylvania Avenue, about 1:15 a.m. Tuesday, March 21, according to police.”
WJLA: Police: Man, 28, charged with murder of North Carolina woman temporarily living in D.C. ” A 28-year-old man was arrested Monday in connection with the murder of 34-year-old Corrina Meheil, a North Carolina woman temporarily living in Northeast Washington, police confirmed on Tuesday.”
Washington Post: Man struck by vehicle in Northeast Washington dies of injuries “A 58-year-old pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle Saturday night in Northeast Washington has died, and police said they charged the driver with second-degree murder and driving under the influence.”
Washington Post: Two men shot, one fatally, while sitting in a BMW in Congress Heights “Two men who were shot — one fatally — on Tuesday afternoon at an intersection in Congress Heights were sitting inside a BMW, according to D.C. police.”
WJLA: Man arrested in deadly shooting of victim 2 weeks ago in Southeast D.C., police say “A 23-year-old man was arrested for the shooting death of another man on March 17 in Southeast Washington. Bernard Coleman III is charged with second-degree murder while armed and theft one, according to police.”
NBC Washington: Father Abandoned Toddler With Car Seat, Bag of Clothes in Southeast DC, Authorities Say “The father of a 2-year-old boy abandoned him in southeast D.C. Tuesday evening after deciding he didn’t want to take care of the child, according to D.C.‘s Child and Family Services Agency.”
Washington Post: Despite mixed reviews, D.C. Council signals support for Newsham as police chief “D.C. Council members signaled support for Mayor Muriel E. Bowser’s nomination of Peter Newsham as the city’s next police chief at a hearing Friday, as a wide array of witnesses gave Newsham mixed reviews for his conduct on and off the job over nearly three decades in law enforcement in the District.”
