DC Crime Summary – June 30th - July 6th, 2017
There were two homicides and several violent crimes reported in the District this week • A man was fatally shot and another person was injured Wednesday night in the Lincoln Heights neighborhood of Northeast Washington. DC Police are actively investigating the crimes. • A man was shot and killed on Galveston Street in Southwest Washington at around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday. Authorities are actively investigating the incident. • There were six separate shootings and a stabbing that took place overnight after the July 4th festivities in the District. DC Police are actively investigating the crimes. • Two women were stabbed Monday in the Congress Heights neighborhood. One victim was unconscious when police arrived, and authorities are actively investigating the incident. No suspect information is available at this time. • DC Police are looking for the man who sexually abused a woman at a Northwest Washington construction site early Sunday morning. DC Police are actively investigating the incident.

Washington Post: 2 shot, 1 fatally, in Northeast Washington “A man was fatally shot and another person was injured Wednesday night in the Lincoln Heights neighborhood of Northeast Washington, according to D.C. police. The shooting occurred about 9:50 p.m. in the 300 block of 50th Street NE in a courtyard near a three-story apartment building and basketball court.”
Fox5DC: Violent night leaves 2 dead, several shot in parts of DC, Maryland “D.C. police say a man was shot and killed on Galveston Street in Southwest Washington at around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday. Detectives are looking for an unidentified adult male, wearing a white shirt and blue jeans, in connection with the killing.”
Washington Post: Man found dead on NE Washington porch was beaten with piece of broken chair, police say “A man fatally beaten on the porch of a home in Northeast Washington’s Trinidad neighborhood last week had prior run-ins with the suspect, who told police he feared the victim was about to stab him, according to an arrest affidavit.”
Fox5DC: 2 women stabbed in Southeast DC “Two women were stabbed in Southeast D.C. on Monday, according to authorities. The Metro Police Department said they responded to a report of a double stabbing in the 2900 block of 5th Street, SE at about 11:20 a.m.”
WJLA: Woman sexually assaulted at knifepoint at NW DC construction site “The Metropolitan Police Department is looking for the man who sexually abused a woman at a Northwest Washington construction site. The police report shows the attacker “threatened her with a knife and forced her into the basement” early Sunday morning.”
Washington Post: D.C. police say man shot by officer in Northwest Washington had raised gun “A man who was shot and wounded by a D.C. police officer Wednesday night in the Park View neighborhood of Northwest Washington raised a handgun toward the officer who fired, authorities said in a statement. The man, identified as Kenneth Burley, 28, of Southeast, was taken to a hospital. Police said his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.”
Washington Post: Two D.C. men sentenced to 47 years for deadly 2009 shootings “Two D.C. gang members were sentenced Monday to 47 years in prison for a deadly 2009 shooting in Northeast Washington that left two teens dead, including a 15-year-old bystander.”
Washington Post: Majority Whip Steve Scalise undergoes another surgery “Louisiana Republican Steve Scalise underwent another surgery Thursday to handle an infection from wounds he suffered in Alexandria last month, according to a statement by MedStar Washington. In a brief update, the hospital said Thursday the House Majority Whip remains in serious condition after complications arose this week that saw him readmitted to the intensive care unit.”

Washington Post: ‘We got our lives’: No injuries in multiple rowhouse fire in Northeast D.C. “At least a dozen people were displaced and four properties were damaged in a Sunday morning fire in the 300 block of 18th Street NE, the D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department said.”
WJLA: Cleanup underway after fireworks debris found, damage occurs in D.C. on 4th of July “The amateur fireworks on display Tuesday night in Northeast Washington looked a lot like a professional show. But not only are the fireworks illegal in D.C., the aftermath has left a trail of trash and debris throughout parts of the city.”
Fox5DC: NYPD officer murdered in ‘unprovoked attack’ “In what the NYPD commissioner called an assassination, a New York City police officer has died after being shot in the head in a police vehicle in the Bronx. Officer Miosotis Familia, 48, died at a hospital early Wednesday. Police say other officers shot and killed the suspect a short time later after he drew a revolver on them.”
