DC Crime Summary – April 21st - 27th, 2017
There was a homicide and several violent crimes reported in the District this week • Christopher Devin Heard, 37, was identified as the man who was fatally shot Thursday morning in the Woodland Terrace public housing complex. No suspect information is available at this time, and authorities are actively investigating the incident. • David Blakeney Jr., 26, was arrested by DC Police and charged with fatally stabbing his father, David Blakeney, 53, earlier in April. The suspect was formally charged with second-degree murder. • Joshua Gibbs, 25, was arrested after he allegedly attempted to recruit a child to engage in sex trafficking. • Antione Kingwood, 24, was arrested by authorities and charged with the second-degree murder of Steven Edward Stewart Jr., 33, in the Fairlawn neighborhood. DC Police did not comment on a motive in the case. • A video of a violent shooting was released by authorities. In the footage, the suspect walks up to the victim, shoots him, and then runs off as the victim falls to the ground. DC Police are seeking the public’s assistance in locating the person of interest. • A DC Police cruiser was struck by gunfire Thursday night near the Barry Farm neighborhood. No police officer was injured in the incident, and authorities are searching for a green Mazda with a Washington Redskins sticker in the mirror.

WJLA: Police: Man dead after early morning shooting in D.C. “A man is dead after a shooting in Southeast Washington early Thursday morning, D.C. police report. Officers near the area heard the shooting and found the man laying on the ground. According to police, he was shot in the chest and transported to a hospital in an unconscious state. He was later pronounced dead.”
Washington Post: Man charged with fatally stabbing his father in Southeast Washington “A 26-year-old man was arrested Tuesday and charged with fatally stabbing his father earlier this month in Southeast Washington, according to D.C. police. David Blakeney Jr., 26, of Southeast, was charged with second-degree murder. The victim was identified as David Blakeney, 53, also of Southeast. Dustin Sternbeck, a spokesman for the D.C. police, confirmed the victim was the suspect’s father.”
Washington Post: D.C. police car pierced by bullets in Southeast Washington “Bullets struck a D.C. police patrol car Thursday night in Southeast Washington, police officials reported. No officers were injured during the shooting. The incident happened as the cruiser was in the 2900 block of Pomeroy Road about 9:15 p.m., said Officer Sean Hickman, a spokesman.”
Washington Post: Police arrest suspect in March killing in front of convenience store in Southeast “D.C. police on Friday arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred last month on a busy street in the Fairlawn neighborhood of Southeast Washington, according to authorities.”
Washington Post: D.C. police arrest 15-year-old girl in 3 burglaries in Northeast Washington “A 15-year-old girl has been charged with burglarizing three residences in the Michigan Park area of Northeast Washington this month and stealing phones, credit cards, computer equipment and, in one case, a guitar, according to D.C. police.”
Washington Post: Police hope video of man’s shooting in Northeast D.C. leads to arrest “The black and white video shows a man standing on a sidewalk just off H Street in Northeast Washington, both hands in his pockets, a silhouette against the glow of a streetlight. A man runs toward him holding what appears to be a gun in his right hand. His arm extends as the victim falls out of the frame. It appears two shots are fired before the gunman’s arm drops down to his side.”
WJLA: Police: D.C. man arrested on child sex trafficking charges “Police say they arrested a man on charges of child sex trafficking on Saturday in D.C. Police say Joshua Gibbs, 25, of D.C. is accused of allegedly recruiting a child through a website and then trying to take them with “the intent to engage in a commercial sex act.” This happened at around 1:00 a.m. on Saturday.”
Fox5DC: Video shows violent shooting in DC; police search for gunman “Police have released video of a violent shooting in Northeast D.C. in hopes of finding the gunman responsible. The shooting happened on Wednesday, April 12 around 8:30 p.m. in the 800 block of 9th Street.”
Washington Post: Man in D.C. charged in string of mostly sexual-abuse incidents “A man was arrested Thursday and charged in seven incidents of sexual abuse or attempted abuse, robbery or voyeurism, D.C. police said. They said one case involved a knife and another a gun.”

WJLA: Police: 33-year-old Brooklyn man dies after hit by driver of Volkswagen in NW, D.C. “A 33-year-old man from Brooklyn, New York was hit by a driver of a silver Volkswagon Gold in Northwest Washington early Thursday morning, D.C. police said. According to police, the driver had been parked in the 2100 block of 8th Street shortly before 2 a.m. when he got into his vehicle and started to pull away from a curb.”
