DC Crime Summary – May 27th – June 2nd
There were several homicides this past week that the police are actively investigating. • Tyrone Bradley, 40, was shot and killed Monday morning in the Carver / Langston neighborhood. DC Police are actively investigating the incident, and no suspect information is available at this time. • Russell Crawford, 32, was fatally shot Sunday evening near Mount Vernon Metro station. • William Arthur Wells Jr., 39, was shot and killed Sunday afternoon in the Grant Park neighborhood. Another man was also injured in the shooting, and he is currently in stable condition at a local hospital. • In addition to the homicides, DC Police Chief Cathy Lanier met with Church leaders yesterday to discuss the rise in violent crime in the District.

Fox5DC: DC police leaders meet with clergy to tackle growing crime concerns “D.C. leaders including Police Chief Cathy Lanier met with local clergy from different religions to address the growing crime concerns in the city. The closed-door meeting was held at the Allen Chapel AME Church on Alabama Avenue in Southeast D.C. and the main topic of concern that was discussed was violence.”
Washington Post: D.C. police to resume breaking crime alerts on Twitter “D.C. police on Tuesday said that breaking crime news will soon return to the department’s official Twitter account, reversing a decision to use a separate city notification system to alert residents about violence in their neighborhoods.”
Fox5DC: 1 dead, 1 injured in shooting in northeast Washington “Police are investigating a fatal shooting in northeast Washington. Police say they were called to the 200 block of 55th Street NE on Sunday around 1:30 a.m. for a report of gunshots. Police say when they arrived they found an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. Police say the man was unconscious and unresponsive and that he died of his injuries.”
NBC Washington: Man Fatally Shot in Northeast DC “Police got a call shortly before 2:15 a.m. about the shooting in the 700 block of 24th Street NE.”
WUSA9: Police respond to NW DC shooting “Police responded to a shooting in Northwest, D.C. Sunday evening that left one man dead. The shooting happened at a building in the 1300 block of 7th Street. When officers arrived they found 32-year-old Russell Crawford suffering from gunshot wounds.”
Washington Post: D.C. police declare 3-year-old’s death a homicide “A 3-year-old boy from Southeast Washington who died in January succumbed to injuries he suffered years earlier as an infant, when D.C. police accused his father of shaking him so hard the child bled in his brain, according to authorities.”
Washington Post: D.C. police arrest suspect in killing of woman 23 years ago “D.C. police using DNA evidence found at a fatal stabbing of a woman nearly a quarter of a century ago in Northwest Washington’s Petworth neighborhood arrested a suspect in Baltimore on Wednesday.”
WUSA9: Woman in hospital after shooting in Southeast DC “A woman was taken to a local hospital Tuesday after a shooting on 13th street SE, D.C. police said.”
NBC Washington: Teen Charged With Shooting Girl Outside Anacostia Metro Station “A 17-year-old boy has been charged with shooting a teenage girl at the entrance to the Anacostia Metro station, Metro Transit police said Wednesday. The boy has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon, police said.”
Washington Post: Triple stabbing in SE Washington “Three men were stabbed Wednesday night in Southeast Washington, according to D.C. police. The incident happened around 10:40 p.m. in the 2700 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue. Police said they received a call for an aggravated assault. When officers arrived, they found three men suffering from stab wounds.”
Washington Post: District man charged with sexually assaulting teen in Chevy Chase mall bathroom “A Southeast Washington man from was charged Friday with first-degree sexual abuse after police said he forced a 17-year-old male to leave a Metro station and then sexually assaulted the youth in a public bathroom at a Chevy Chase mall.”
Washington Post: Arrest in Georgetown after shots fired near waterfront “A man was taken into custody in Georgetown Sunday night after reports of shots fired near the waterfront, U.S. Park Police said. An officer heard gunshots while on patrol, and several people pointed out a man who they indicated was possibly armed, said Sgt Anna Rose, a Park Police spokeswoman.”
Fox5DC: 3 sought in DC nightclub assault “D.C. police are searching for three people seen on surveillance video involved in an aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon at a Northwest D.C. nightclub. Police said the violent incident happened at the Eden nightclub in the 1700 block of I Street at around 2:10 a.m. on May 21.”
