DC Crime Summary – June 3rd - 9th
There were two fatal shootings and several other violent crimes in the District this past week. • Tyrique White, 18, was shot and killed Sunday evening near CW Harris Elementary School. • A man was fatally shot Thursday night in the Washington Highlands neighborhood. No suspect information is available in either of the homicides, and DC Police are actively investigating both incidents. • Four men were shot outside of the Big Ben liquor store Wednesday afternoon at New York Avenue and North Capitol Street NW. Authorities are searching for a male suspect. • Meguiel Jackson, 36, was sentenced to 12 years in prison after he plead guilty in March to cutting his girlfriend 28 times with a knife. • DC Police arrested 10 suspects and seized over 80 pounds of heroin in a drug bust along the Benning Road corridor. Authorities believe the drugs were shipped from India and Africa.

NBC Washington: DC Police Chief Testifies Before Senators on Synthetic Drug Epidemic “As the Senate looks to crack down on synthetic drugs, D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier spoke on Tuesday about the problem in the District. She testified that 20 percent of suspects in felony arrest cases now test positive for the drugs.”
Washington Post: Man shot and killed in Southeast Washington on Sunday evening “A man was shot and killed Sunday in Southeast Washington, according to police. The incident happened about 8:48 p.m. in the 5200 block of Call Place SE. Police said when they arrived, they found Tyrique White, 18, of Southeast suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.”
Washington Post: Man fatally shot in Southeast Washington “A man was shot and killed Thursday night in the Washington Highlands neighborhood of Southeast Washington, according to D.C. police. The shooting occurred about 10:20 p.m. in the 900 block of Varney Street SE. Police said officers responding to report of gunfire found a man who had been wounded.”
Washington Post: D.C. man sentenced to 12 years in prison for cutting girlfriend with knife 28 times “A District man was sentenced Monday to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to using a knife to cut his former girlfriend 28 times across her face, arms, chest, legs and back in January.”
Washington Post: Three men wounded in unrelated shootings early Sunday in the District “Three men were wounded in a string of unrelated shootings during a two-hour span across the District early Sunday morning. All three victims were conscious when they were taken to local hospitals for treatment, said Officer Sean Hickman, a D.C. police spokesman.”
Washington Post: D.C. police arrest man after shooting at shopping center in Northeast Washington “On Friday, D.C. police announced they had made an arrest. Leroy Robinson, 32, of Northeast, was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon. A D.C. Superior Court judge ordered Robinson detained until a preliminary hearing on Monday.”
Washington Post: Four shot in front of liquor store at North Capitol Street and New York Avenue “Four men were shot Wednesday afternoon outside a liquor store at New York Avenue and North Capitol Street in Northwest Washington, snarling the traffic along one of the city’s busiest thoroughfares.”
Washington Post: Police post video showing suspects in 4 D.C. stabbings “Police in the District said they are trying to identify two suspects who allegedly stabbed four victims this month in Southeast Washington. On Thursday, authorities released a surveillance video showing the suspects they were looking for in relation to the June 1 incident. The assaults happened about 10:42 a.m. in the 2700 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE.”
Washington Post: Jury finds ex-D.C. emergency room nurse guilty of sexual assault of patients “Prosecutors charged Jared Kline, 38, with 10 counts of second-degree sexual abuse of a patient involving four women who were patients at George Washington University Hospital, MedStar Washington Hospital Center and United Medical Center between 2013 and 2014.”
Washington Post: Police, federal agents announce major heroin bust tied to Benning Road corridor “D.C. police and federal agents on Tuesday announced the arrests of 10 people who authorities said are linked to a large-scale heroin operation that supplied dealers along the Benning Road corridor in Southeast and Northeast Washington.”
Washington Post: Worker at car parts store in NW Washington accused of selling stolen electronics “Authorities on Monday raided an auto parts and service shop in Northwest Washington and arrested an employee in Maryland who authorities said was using the store to buy and sell cellphones and electronic devices taken in recent robberies.”
Washington Post: Southeast residents angry over violence march to stop killings “Veda Rasheed has not lost a son to the District’s streets, but she’s worried enough about the danger that her two boys might encounter that on Saturday she organized an anti-violence march that cut through a deadly stretch of the city.”

WUSA9: MISSING: 12-year-old boy from NE, DC “Police are searching for a missing 12-year-old from Northeast, D.C. Andre Wallace 12, was last seen in the 1600 block of F Street in Northeast, D.C. on Saturday, Metropolitan police said.”
