DC Crime Summary – April 14th - 20th, 2017
There were two homicides and several violent crimes reported in the District this week • Darryl Knight, 37, was identified as the man who was shot and killed in the Anacostia neighborhood Monday night. Three men were described as suspects, and DC Police are actively investigating the incident. • David Blakeney, 53, was fatally stabbed in the Barry Farm neighborhood on Monday. Authorities are investigating the homicide, and no further information is available at this time. • An unidentified man was unresponsive when he was found after a stabbing near Stanton Park Sunday afternoon. No suspect information is available at this time, and authorities are actively investigating the incident. • Two men were shot and critically wounded Friday night in the Douglass neighborhood in Southeast. No further details are available at this time. • A photo was released of two men armed with assault rifles who attempted to rob another vehicle in the Brightwood Park neighborhood. DC Police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying and locating the suspects.

Washington Post: Man killed in Anacostia shooting, another fatally stabbed in Barry Farm “D.C. police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Monday night in the Anacostia neighborhood and the stabbing death of a man that occurred hours earlier in Barry Farm, both in Southeast Washington.”
Fox5DC: 21-year-old charged in murder of elderly man inside Capitol Hill rowhouse “Police have arrested a 21-year-old man they say stabbed and killed an elderly resident inside of his Capitol Hill rowhouse. Investigators say Malcolm Amir Cunningham was arrested Monday by members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force. He is charged with second-degree murder while armed.”
WJLA: Police: Man dies after being shot in Southeast D.C. “A man is dead following a shooting in Southeast D.C. Monday night, police report. The shooting happened in the 2200 block of Mount View Place, SE at around 7:20 p.m.”
Washington Post: Stabbing victim identified as 79-year-old D.C. man “A man who was found fatally stabbed inside a rowhouse Sunday afternoon near Stanton Park on Capitol Hill has been identified, according to D.C. police. David Norwood, 79, of Northeast Washington was pronounced dead at the scene in the 600 block of C Street NE. His body was discovered about 1:40 p.m.”
Washington Post: Man ‘unresponsive’ after stabbing in Capitol Hill neighborhood “A man was “unresponsive”after being stabbed in the Capitol Hill neighborhood Sunday afternoon, D.C. police said. Police spokeswoman Margarita Mikhaylova said the incident occurred about 1:40 p.m in the 600 block of C Street Northeast, near Stanton Park. Mikhaylova said the victim was unconscious and not breathing.”
Washington Post: Two men shot and critically wounded in the District “Two men were shot and critically wounded Friday night in Southeast Washington, D.C. police said. Officers responded to the shooting in the 3500 block of Stanton Road about 8:06 p.m., said Officer Hugh Carew, a spokesman.”
WJLA: Man, 19, arrested for shooting of victim in Southeast D.C., police say “A 19-year-old man was arrested for the shooting of another person on April 18 in Southeast Washington, according to police. Aaron Beckhan (aka Aaron Beckham) is charged with assault with a dangerous weapon (gun).”
NBC Washington: Men Armed With Assault Rifles Take Empty Bag From Armored Car Guard “Two men armed with assault rifles attempted to rob an armored car Wednesday, but all they got away with was an empty bag, the Metropolitan Police Department said. An armored car employee with an empty currency bag was walking toward a business in the 5400 block of 5th Street in northwest D.C. when the gunmen ordered him to the ground and took the bag, police said.”
WJLA: Police: 33-year-old man arrested in connection with Northwest Washington stabbing “A 33-year-old man was arrested in connection with a stabbing that took place inside a home in Northwest, D.C. late Monday evening, D.C. police report.”
WJLA: D.C. man gets 9 years for assaulting, stalking, posting sexual images of ex-girlfriend “A 46-year-old man was sentenced to nine years in prison Wednesday for assaulting, stalking, threatening and unlawfully showing sexual images of his ex-girlfriend.”
Washington Post: Convicted sex offender posed as D.C.school employee, drove school bus for a week “D.C. school officials said Friday that a convicted sex offender “fraudulently posed as an employee” and got behind the wheel of a school bus, transporting children for a week in mid-March before officials caught him and removed him from service.”
WJLA: D.C. Police: Officer dragged by driver in Northwest during traffic stop “A D.C. police officer was dragged by a driver that had been pulled over for a traffic stop early Thursday morning, authorities report. According to D.C. police, an officer stopped a Nissan Altima in the vicinity of 12th and New York Avenue Northwest around 2:30 a.m. when the incident took place.”
